Hollywood is known for creating blockbuster movie franchises. From romantic comedies to horror, action, comedies and science-fiction, it is a multi-billion dollar industry that continues to evolve through the years. One way that filmmakers like to experiment is through movie reboots. Each new director aims to tell the story in a better way.
Hardcore Science-fiction movie fanatics will be excited to know that a remake of the movie “Dune” is currently underway. Based on one of the most revered science-fiction novels of all time, the movie is often referred to as “the science-fiction version of Lore of the Rings” and has influenced other blockbuster franchises like Star Wars to The Matrix.
Set in the distant future, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only provider of a highly valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among the noble families.
After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.
The Dune movie reboot will have Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert as Executive Producers.
Legendary Entertainment has also confirmed that a TV series will also go into production in the near future. The movie and TV show are being made with a global audience in mind.
The movie is set to be directed by Denis Villeneuve, director of “Blade Runner 2049” and “Arrival.”
Based on a novel by Frank Herbert, the Dune movie reboot will have to be excellent to surpass expectations. The $40 million original film, directed by David Lynch grossed $30 million and was a critical failure.
The original film may have bombed at the box office, but it went on to develop a cult following.
