Look up in the sky, it’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a kite!
When was the last time you flew a kite or even saw someone fly a kite recently? I’m sure your answer would be since you were a child. Well feel like a carefree spirit again through the Annual Cape Town International Kite Festival 2015, held in the month of November.
This is one of the city’s most iconic family events. Bring a kite, buy one or just watch and admire as the sky is filled with all sorts of design and colour of kites from around the world on the beautiful grounds of Zandvlei in Muizenberg, creating a visual extravaganza not to be missed.
Its South Africa’s biggest kite festival and high flying showcase filled with loads of fun things to do such as entertainment from local bands, competitions, kite making workshops for the little ones as well as the adults. Plenty of play for children and food and craft stalls.
Make a day of it at the festival which usually runs for two days, bring your picnic blankets or camp chairs and marvel at the skies while you watch the kites come alive in flight in crowd pleasing performances from professional kite makers and fliers both locally and internationally who demonstrate their skills as handlers of their delightful kites.
Don’t blink or look down or you might miss your favourite television hero or cartoon character floating by as a larger than life kite or you can look up in the sky and see a little action of stunt kiting exhibition or Japanese inspired kite battles.
The festivities are held in conjunction with the National Art Council all in the name of charity towards the support of the non-profit organisation Cape Mental Health.
