For the love of reading
This event is one with a difference, a festival not focused on food, music, fashion or sport, but rather books through the Franschhoek Literary Festival.
When last did you read a book? This Franschhoek literary festival 2015 in its 9th year fosters a love of books and reading through eight one hour events of informal discussions and spirited debates, one on one conversations or occasional talks lead by experts in the writing world including Journalists, Editors, Authors and Poets engaging audiences on a number of topics across genres.
The festival takes place from 15-17 May in various venues throughout the town, fringe events include literary and publisher’s dinners, book launches, writing workshops, a school spelling bee, wine writer’s prizes and a classic music concert.
Rather read a book for fun and switch off the TV or not play PlayStations for those few minutes as reading can transport you into another place, broaden your outlook and help improve your comprehension skill and language proficiency.
And for a handful of people who do read books promote the culture of reading not only expensive books but reading anything that has substance including free community newspapers, sharing of books, or even magazines to read a short story or article if a book is too much effort to read. Visit a library, raid a second hand book store or instead of thinking its cool and fashionable to download music onto your phone rather download books for free on your smartphone.
