For the thrill of it
Let the adventure seeker in you take part in the Old Mutual Radox Golden Gate Challenge – be warned, it’s not for the faint hearted.
Participants are expected to deal with altitudes as they cover just over 70km in three days on a track and trial run through some of what the Free State province is known to offer big, scenic yet rugged mountains.
Expect all this to happen on a single base Glen Reenen Rest camp situated in the Golden Gate Highlands National Park.
Through the run you will be setting off on a journey, as you will go where no man has ever gone. Traversing through restricted parts of the reserve rarely seen by the public, like Little Serengeti, Cathedral Caves and many other hidden gems within the park.
For a true off-road experience, the run will incorporate mainly hiking trails and Jeep track while the last day will start off with an early morning night run, which will add a new dimension to the challenge. You will be tried throughout the race but do enjoy the adventure.
The three day trail run will take place from the 22-25 October with options of three distances the 27km, 29km and 17km. Registration for the run will take place on 22 October. Entry fee for the full package is R2 800 and runners package R2 500. These entry packages include R300 compulsory conservation fee, tented village and catering accommodation from Thursday night through to Saturday night.
