Celebrate the 21st Annual Oppikoppi Festival with this year’s theme of the Fantastic Mr. Vos Vos and experience a music overload event in the dusty farms of Northam, Limpopo from 7-9 August.
You know you’re in for an epic time as Oppikoppi is ranked on the Daily Mirror list as the 4th best festival in the world and is also the only African festival featured in the list.
It will be a whole lot of craziness, just you, your mates and the great outdoors, and thousands of other people who flock to camp out in the bush and enjoy the music for several days – it’s definitely not for the faint hearted.
Just as the name of the festival suggests ‘Op Die Koppie’ translation of that is you’ll literally be on top of the hill on the campsite enjoying a selection of acts of multiple genres of music from hip hop, dance and on the main stage rock, which was the kind of music that the festival first focused on.
Expect to see as announced on the festivals Facebook page the Parlotones, Tweak a local pop punk band who have released their first new song in ten years titled the A Team, they announced they will be doing a ten year anniversary show and are an anticipated act at this year’s Oppikoppi.
Also for his lifetime contribution to music, the Oppikoppi festival 2015 tribute artist goes to one of South Africa’s favourite sons Johnny Glegg. The groundbreaking singer, dancer and anthropologist will for the first time play his set on the festivals stage.
Previous recipients of the tribute have included: Valiant Swart, Hugh Masekela, David Kramer, Koos Kombuis, Sipho Hostix Mabuse, and Ollie Viljoen.
