The government of South Africa still faces one biggest challenge which has seen the emerging of unsanctioned settlements in and around some of its towns. Inadequate housing is one aspect that is lacking in this country; repeated calls and demonstrations bent on demanding answers have been made by people.
A research which was conducted provides that an estimated 7.5 million people don’t have proper accommodation; a bigger portion of this percentage lives in rural or per-urban areas.
To curb this challenge in rural areas, the government through the Department of Housing, introduced the Rural Housing Loan Fund (RHLF). This loan facility initially had the grant funding from the German development bank. The objective of RHLF was to assist low income earners with loans.
The lending process was done in such a way that allows partners to borrow funds from RHLF and then lend them to individuals in rural areas, small town and secondary cities in South Africa. This lending facility enables RHLF to be visible across the nation because retail lenders respond quicker to events and better understand local needs and circumstances.
