A page turner not to be missed
Spend your day, no not window shopping at the mall, or at a party or music festival, but rather surrounded by books at one of the biggest book fairs hosted in the country.
The South African Book Fair will run from 31 July – 2 August. Last year it was hosted at the Mother City, Cape Town and this year the fair is held for the first time in Johannesburg at Newtown’s Turbine Hall and is arranged by the Publishers Association of South Africa (PASA).
In this era of everything mobile and digital, book lovers are a dime a dozen, and whether you consider yourself a bookworm or not, ignite your passion for reading at the book fair that attracts more than 250 exhibitors from more than 30 countries.
It promises to be an exciting literary programme that will feature book launches and signings, author interviews and discussions, poetry readings, literary workshops and forums, exhibitions and displays, and an exciting children’s zone. And as we learn through reading books, learners will not be left out of the loop there will also be a literary programme dedicated to schools and library day.
DID YOU KNOW?
The fair was established in 2006, at the time when the Harare book Fair, the biggest and most successful could not continue. PASA stepped in in order to keep the momentum and establish another book fair that would fill the gap.
So, Joburgers turn up and show books some love!
